Growers encouraged to take part in British Tomato Fortnight campaign

The British Tomato Fortnight campaign is returning this year to promote the humble, delicious, nutritious and responsibly produced British tomato.

The British Tomato Fortnight campaign is returning this year to promote the humble, delicious, nutritious and responsibly produced British tomato.

The campaign will take place between 27th May and 9th June.

The organiser, British Tomato Growers Association, said that they will be focusing on a few key elements, including health benefits of tomatoes, versatility as well as sustainability and seasonality.

Veg Power will be the campaign’s supporter this year. The organisation will be helping spread the message through their established media networks.

Great British Bake-Off star Flora Shedden will also be sharing information about the campaign on her social media.

How to get involved in British Tomato Fortnight campaign

Tomato growers are being encouraged to get involved in the campaign. This is what you can do:

  • Keep an eye on the British Tomato Growers Association’s social media channels and reshare posts – they will be posting on our various channels in the build up and during the fortnight, and will also have several influencers and chefs supporting the campaign this year. To help them out, please like and reshare posts from personal and business accounts on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok etc.
  • Take pictures and videos of growing tomatoes and share them on your social media – introduce yourselves and your business. What do you love about growing and eating tomatoes? What’s your favourite variety and why? What are you proud of regarding how you produce tomatoes? Any interesting tomato growing facts and figures?
  • Use hashtags to increase awareness of content – #britishtomatofortnight and #tastytoms – the campaigner will tag all relevant content with #britishtomatofortnight, and recipes with #tastytoms, which will also form a part of a competition tbc!
  • Put the BTGA team in touch with your communications/social media lead so they can collaborate with them on the campaign.
  • Talk to your customers about the campaign and get them involved – with retailer support the campaign can be better than ever.
